Life Industry Experience Studies

Group Long-Term Disability (GLTD) Claims Experience Study - The SOA GLTD Experience Committee is conducting an examination of claims experience between 1997 and 2006. Over twenty companies have submitted data, and the Committee is seeking to release a draft report by mid-2009 detailing termination rates, actual-to-expected ratios, and other measures of claims experience. A prior experience study for GLTD claims was cancelled, creating a significant gap for carriers, regulators and others who seek to examine recent experience, trends and demographic shifts in claims by age, duration, cause, and mode of termination. Analysis of experience is anticipated on a valuation basis and a pricing basis.

Individual Life Experience Study - The Society of Actuaries Individual Life Experience Study (ILEC) has completed its data call of the 2004-2005 experience data. The recent publication of 2002-2004 ILEC experience has provided new methods to examine the experience between 2004-2005 anniversaries, particularly with respect to preferred/residual standard classifications of risk.

Preferred Mortality Experience Study - A joint Project Oversight Group comprised of volunteers from the Society of Actuaries and the American Academy of Actuaries is examining numerous issues with regard to the level of mortality and the sensitivity of mortality findings for preferred-class life insurance policies. This investigation uses innovative techniques, and relies on the data gathered for the recently-published 2002-2004 Individual Life Experience Committee mortality study.

Individual Payout Annuity Experience - The Society of Actuaries (SOA) Individual Annuity Experience Committee (IAEC) is drafting preliminary analysis of mortality experience for annuities in the payout phase, for the period 2000-2004.

Structured Settlements Annuity Experience - The IAEC is also updating the 1999 Structured Settlements mortality study. This study spans 2000-2004, and was combined with the Individual Payout Annuity Experience study for simplified data contribution. The data call has been completed, and validation and analysis are underway.

Deferred Annuity Experience Study - An update to the Deferred Annuity Experience Study using data compiled by LIMRA.

Long-Term Care Experience - This study adds three more years of experience (2002-2004) to the cumulative database of LTC experience. Analysis is being developed to examine persistency, mortality and claim duration.
