Risk Analytics
MIB Solutions’ Actuarial and Statistical Research Group is at the forefront of life insurance industry research helping actuaries, medical directors and underwriters keep up-to-date on contemporary trends and medical advances in mortality and morbidity. The activities of this group deliver unique insights into the most pressing risk management issues for life insurers and reinsurers — providing an effective platform for strategic product development.
Industry Research for Best Practices
For more than two decades, the Society of Actuaries has relied on MIB Solutions’ Center for Medico-Actuarial Statistics (CMAS), an operating unit of the Actuarial and Statistical Research Group, to provide an industry-wide perspective on life experience studies and specialized studies that, among other things, serve as the foundation for industry mortality tables. CMAS additionally conducts research on emerging medical advances that impact life underwriting through the Mortality and Morbidity Liaison Committee (MMLC), a collaborative effort between the SOA, the American Academy of Insurance Medicine (AAIM), and the Association of Home Office Underwriters (AHOU).
Member companies use MIB Solutions’ proprietary and secure Impairment Study Capture System (ISCS) to participate in, and benefit from on-going industry research. The ISCS is a unique and valuable industry resource, comprised of de-identified policy data, used exclusively for impairment and experience study purposes in aggregate form.
Defending Risk Selection
Both the activities of CMAS and the ISCS database are supported by all MIB member companies. They provide a scientific method from which to defend life insurance underwriting and justify risk assessment practices based on the ongoing study and analysis of the differences in mortality experience between groups with different medical impairments. |
